SEMINAR AGENDA 

8.30-9.30: Fiber Basics and Use in Reinforced Concrete: Presented by Jeannine Jones of BASF

Course Description: (1 hr. HSW Credit) The presentation will start with an introduction to fiber basics and will be followed by these topics: Micro fibers, macro fibers, steel fibers, engineering test data, and Dosage Wizard.

Presenter's Bio: Jeannine came to BASF as a Product Marketing Manager for the MasterFiber product line from OM Group where she was a Senior Market Analyst. Prior to working for OMG, she was a Business Development Analyst at GE's Corporate Research and Development Lab, specializing in Electronics. She has had experience in various areas of the finance world including, Purchasing, Accounting, Co-Op Advertising, Accounts Payable, Corporate Credit Card Management, and General Accounting. Jeannine has her BS is Economics from Miami University in Oxford, OH and her MBA from Cleveland State University.

 

9.45-10.45: Fly Ash and LEED: Presented by Hank Keiper, PE of Energy Control Consultants, Inc.

Course Description: (1 hr. Sustainable Design Credit) This presentation will discuss the use of fly ash in concrete, including, basic information, specification concerns, and its use as applicable to obtaining LEED credits.

Presenter's Bio: Hank Keiper is the SEFA Group's Area Manager for ash marketing in Virginia and Maryland. He has 25 years experience in engineering, construction management, ready-mix concrete production and concrete quality control. He holds an ACI Level One Certification, NRMCA Certified Concrete Technologist, and a Colorado Professional Engineer's license. Hank graduated from the US Air Force Academy with a BS degree in Civil Engineering and The University of Florida with a MS degree in Building Construction.

 

11.00-12.00: Using Social Media for Business Networking: Presented by Brent Williams of Energy Control Consultants, Inc.

Course Description: (1 hr. Learning Credit) In today's fast moving media markets, the best of the best are turning to Social Media outlets like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to build brand, directly connect with potential clients and network. Find out how to use these toolds efficiently and powerfully to connect yourself, your firm, and your vision with those people that are most likely to be in a position to help you reach your goals.

Presenter's Bio: Brent Williams founded the firm now known as Energy Control Consultants in 1983, working as a manufacturer's representative by day and a starving musician by night. Realizing that a continuing position as a working drummer would possibly involve a lot of the aforementioned starving, he enrolled in the School of Architecture at the University of Tennessee in fall of 1982. In early 1985, he was recruited by 3M to become both a full-time representative for the Builiding Safety Solutions Division and a college dropout at the same time. The rest, they say is history.

 

1.00-3.00: Basics of Precast/ Prestressed Concrete Design: Presented by Peter Finsen of Georgia Carolinas PCI

Course Description: (2 HSW Credits) This presentation will begin with an introduction to Precast/ Prestressed Concrete Components and some context regarding its history. The plant manufacturing process, quality control, and what it means to have PCI Certification will then be discussed. Precast solutions and building types, including design considerations for architectural precast, structural precast/prestressed, integrated design solutions and solutions for sustainability will follow.

Presenter's Bio: Peter serves as the chief executive officer of Georgia/Carolinas PCI, a Chapter of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. He is responsible for association management with key emphasis on educational, technical and marketing promotion of solutions to advance the design, manufacture, and use of precast/prestressed concrete products. Peter has a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a career that spans more than 30 years in the design and construction industry. With early stints as a design architect, plus 10 years at TVA in the Architectural Branch, Solar and Conservation programs, and experience that includes PM? CM project development services on over $6 billion in construction value of educational, correctional, housing, infrastructure, and governmental projects.
